Product Pricing
Here's some information to help get started.
Pricing can be applied in 3 ways throughout the cart:
- System Wide Markup Tiers
- Category Markup Tiers
- Mass Price Editor
When a new product is added, or when a product cost is updated, the site will first look for a System Wide markup, and apply that markup to the product(s). Then it will look for a category markup and override any System wide markups in place. Finally, if a price is set in the Mass Price Editor after the System Wide & Category markups have been applied it will override those prices with the manually set prices in the Mass Price Editor.
Markups set in System Wide or Category Markup pages will take effect only when the cost is updated (scheduled for once per day). Prices set in the Mass Price Editor will take effect immediately.
It is not necessary to use both System Wide and Category Markups, and it's recommended to use Category Markups as it allows more flexibility in product pricing. System Wide markup tiers allows a cost range and definition of a markup for all products, regardless of which categories they belong to. Category markups allows markup percentages uniquely for each of a site's categories.
To set Category Markups, go to Sync Item Master > Category Markup in the admin console:
In the '+ Add Category Markup' row, enter a category path. If there is a top level category of "Optics", enter "/Optics". To price subcategories, separate the path with a forward slash. Example: "/Optics/Binoculars". If Category Markup to "/Optics" is applied, it will automatically apply to all subcategories of Optics as well, and will only be overridden if a subcategory markup tier is created. The only reason to enter subcategories is if unique markups need to be applied. If there's a markup on all optics by 30%, but Binoculars should only be marked up 20%, create a subcategory rule.
To add a 25% markup to all products in categories and subcategories of Optics, then enter a rule as follows:
Optionally, use a flat rate markup, round dollars and cents, and define a minimum profit, the same way it is set in the Mass Price Editor.
Once "Add Markup" is clicked, the rule will be created and will show in the "Current Category Markups" section. Then continue adding rules for the remaining categories.
If pricing is already set in the Mass Price Editor, these prices will need to be removed before existing products will be updated with the Category Markup rules. If the current prices should remain as they are, this is not necessary. Any new products added to the store will automatically be priced with the Category Markup rules, and will remain with the markups as configured here unless manually overridden with the Mass Price Editor.
This isn't required, if the Mass Price Editor is preferred, that will work great for Sports South and RSR products. This is just one more way to configure prices that will be automatically applied to new products and prrovide a bit more automation.
